So many tensions in Ben Tufnell's 'An Invocation': between the elemental and the artificial; the raw and the measured; until something seeming to 'go on for hours' while also being 'like being hit by a truck' reads as horrifying truth rather than mixed metaphor.
I really enjoyed the sense of a slightly dull narrator who may have been part of something genuinely demonic but hasn't the life in them to really evoke it, even as they try to ham it up.
